Land of Protestantism and the Camisard rebellion, the Cévennes are full of surprises, such as the mineralogical riches of the soil, and dinosaur traces. Silk milling – no longer practised – profoundly marked the area. The sweet chestnut tree, emblem of the Cévennes, is present in large quantities on the schist slopes between crests and valleys.
