The grandeur and originality of its natural sites made the Cévennes one of the cradles of tourism from the end of the 19th century onwards. The Cévennes National Park has always sought to preserve this heritage and develop the quality and range of the Cévenol tourism economy.
Today tourism is the principal economic activity in the Cévennes.
In order to limit the negative impact of mass tourism, the Cévennes National Park strongly supports high-quality tourism. With this in mind, it has signed the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas drawn up by Europarc, an institution that groups together 500 European parks. It controls the professionals within its territory who wish to get involved in this approach, which is based on the principles of sustainable development.
The Association Cévennes Ecotourisme – which has gathered and motivates a network of 70 members (providers of accommodation, restaurants, guides, tourist venues, etc.) – helps with this process.
