The National Park is crossed by 7,100 km of waterways. About 400 springs feed this river network, an abundance that has given Lozère the name “land of springs”. These environments have a high heritage value and a significant functional role. They are also fragile environments that need to be preserved.
The varied ecological situations of the Park are the source of a great diversity of aquatic environments that are biologically very valuable.
Within the large family of wetlands, peat environments merit particular attention.
Aquatic eco-systems are both indispensable for humans and of great ecological value. Their natural hydraulic function and water quality merit preservation.
At the national level, regulatory instruments have been put in place to ensure the preservation of eco-systems and water quality. The Cévennes National Park is particularly alert to the challenges its territory presents.
