How the National Park is organised

The Cévennes National Park consists of two zones: the central zone and the membership zone. The central zone is the jewel of the Park, a quite exceptional territory that must be preserved for future generations. A very specific set of rules applies to the central zone.

The central zone is a protected area which benefits from special regulations, whose main principles are set out in French Law. These laws make it possible to supervise human activities, limit environmental damage and preserve the beauty and overall character of the National Park.

The membership zone covers areas that are biologically, geographically and culturally close to the central zone. Given this solidarity with the central zone, the National Park assists with projects in sustainable development, protecting the environment and local heritage, and compatible tourism-related activities. The central zone’s specific regulations do not apply to the membership zone.
