The deliberative bodies

The Board of Directors:

  • has 52 members: representatives of the various administrations concerned; representatives of the local authorities (regional councils, county councils, district councils) and of their groupings; representatives of local participants, visitors, staff and other qualified persons;
  • elects its president and two vice-presidents;
  • settles the company’s affairs through its resolutions;
  • may delegate some of its responsibilities to the president of the Board, the committee and the Park Director.

The president of the Board of Directors spearheads the implementation of the communication, partnership and international-relations strategy defined by the Board. He hosts and presides over the elaboration of the Charter.
Jean de Lescure was elected president on 12 April 2010.
The committee is the mouthpiece of the Board of Directors. It prepares projects and carries out the decisions of the Board.

The advisory bodies

A scientific council (SC) assists the Board of Directors and the Park Director in the exercise of their responsibilities. It is made up of qualified persons from the life sciences, earth sciences, human and social sciences.
Eight thematic commissions (consisting of members of the Board, representatives of the administrations, local authorities and socio-professional groups) advise the Board on water, aquatic environments, international relations, agriculture, forestry, hunting, places of interest, architecture, tourism, culture, education, development and local relations.

An economic, social and cultural council will be established in 2010. Its role will be to assist the Board of Directors and the Park Director, notably in matters of contractual policy, to follow up on Charter implementation and to plan local events. This council will consist of representatives of organisations, associations and other persons who, by virtue of their cause or occupation, participate in the Park’s economic, social and cultural activities, as well as representatives of the Park’s inhabitants and users.
